Chemviron Carbon: Sugar and Sweetener Purification with Activated carb

Sugar and Natural and Synthetic Sweeteners

Granular activated carbons manufactured by Chemviron Carbon are used worldwide for purification, decolourisation and odour removal processes. For the sugar industry, we have proposed a range of solutions which are helping to produce high quality products, cost effectively through an environment friendly process.

Products like the granular activated carbons CANECAL®, CAL® and CPG-LF® are directly advancing the production of high grade crystallised or liquid sugars in refineries and sugar mill.

CANECAL® carbons are produced from selected grades of bituminous coal by a highly developed and strictly controlled manufacturing process. This ensures a high purity product with an ideal porosity and high density, providing high volumetric activity and low losses in reactivation and carbon transfer, CANECAL® carbons are highly effective in both fixed and pulse beds and are used throughout the world in cane sugar refineries.

Chemviron Carbon also offer comprehensive technical support from the initial evaluation to pilot trial and finally the engineering package for preliminary design.

We're supporting the environment too. For once granular activated carbon is saturated or the treatment objective is reached, it can be recycled, by thermal reactivation, for reuse. Combined with no hard-to-handle liquid waste loaded with COD and Chloride, the reactivation does help minimising waste and CO2 emissions.

Granular activated carbon decolourisation system

Granular activated carbon is also effective for the decolourisation of other sweeteners such as glucose/dextrose and high fructose corn syrup. Due to the low pH of the treated syrups, acid washed CPG-LF type granular activated carbon combined with reactivation is normally used in these applications. CPG-LF combines low iron and impurity content, high decolourisation capacity and excellent reactivation performance
