Chemviron Carbon: Decaffeination with Activated carbon

Home > Applications > Food and Beverage > Decaffeination

Caffeine is a natural substance that is present in the leaves, seeds and fruits of more than sixty plant species worldwide. Many food and beverage products made with these ingredients inherently contain caffeine. In addition, caffeine is sometimes added to foods and beverages during the manufacturing process in order to enhance flavour, or in the case of medications, to enhance efficacy.

There are three main methods for decaffeinating coffee and tea:

  • Water Extraction Process
  • Carbon-dioxide Decaffeination
  • Solvent Decaffeination

Chemviron Carbon have adapted specific activated carbons type for each of the decaffeination methods. In addition the spent carbon can be re-cycled by thermal reactivation.
