Drinking Water Treatment
Chemviron Carbon is the largest supplier of granular activated carbon to the water industry and was a pioneer in the development of its use in Europe. The Filtrasorb™ range of carbons have been installed in municipal water treatment works for over 30 years, with over 220,000m3 installed at over 1,000 sites globally.
Chemviron Carbon supply special silver impregnated coal and coconut carbons for Point of Use and Point of Entry Water Filters. The silver impregnation provides a safe and effective method of controlling/preventing bacterial growth.
In addition to manufacturing and supplying the activated carbon, the reactivation centres in Feluy, Belgium and Grays, UK provide centres of excellence in custom recycling. Regeneration or reactivation is common practice in the water industry, providing cost savings and a reduction in the environmental impact, compared with disposal and virgin carbon.
Spent carbon is collected in dedicated tankers. The carbon is delivered to the reactivation centres where it is segregated and reactivated. The customer’s original carbon is recycled and returned with, if required, only the addition of virgin material as make-up. The reactivation centres have dedicated facilities for handling food and potable water carbons, ensuring no cross contamination with spent carbons from industrial applications.
For sites where there is a short term or emergency requirement then Chemviron Carbon can provide a range of mobile units approved for potable water use.
